El Tovar hotel is the most famous hotel at Grand Canyon South Rim.
It is built twenty feet from the very edge of the south rim of the Grand Canyon. El Tovar hotel should be your first choice among all Grand Canyon hotels if cost in not an issue. It was built in 1905 and was renovated several times over the years. El Tovar hotel was most recently renovated in 2005. In the past, El Tovar hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey, and many others. Today, El Tovar retains its elegant charm. Located on the Canyon rim, it features a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), lounge and curio shop with newsstand. El Tovar offers its guests Concierge, turn-down and room services, and is a Registered National Historic Landmark. Rooms are often sold out at this popular hotel. If you want to book a room at El Tovar hotel, you'd better book the room at least 4 months in advance. |

El Tovar Hotel has 78 rooms and suites, only a few rooms have views of the canyon. The three-story El Tovar Hotel does not have an elevator. All rooms have cable television, telephone, full bath and air conditioning. All rooms are non-smoking. Most rooms feature one double size bed or a queen size bed. Some rooms and suites will accommodate a rollaway bed, which would be subject to availability and cannot be reserved. El Tovar has free, self-parking. Room service is available during limited hours. |

Dining Room
El Tovar Dining Room accommodates seating for 211 and the bar seats 60. There is also outdoor seating available on El Tovar veranda, which serves drinks and appetizers. The dining room menu blends regional and classical flavors while utilizing contemporary techniques. The El Tovar Dining Room is considered the premier dining establishment at the Grand Canyon. Opening from 6:30 am to 10 pm daily, El Tovar Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Advance dinner reservations are required. |
Lounge
The Lounge is paneled in dark oak. It offers a spectacular view of the canyon from the veranda. Guests can enjoy a light meal and cool beverage. ID required. Open from 11 am to 11 pm daily. |
Gift Shop
Located inside the lobby of the El Tovar Hotel, the gift shop features jewelry from noted Native American artisans, newspapers, souvenirs, books, camera supplies, T-shirts and sundries. |

Hopi House
Hopi House is located across from El Tovar hotel. It is was designed by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter based on the Hopi Indian dwelling at Oraibi, Arizona. She designed Hopi House as a gift shop for tourists and used Moenkopi sandstone and Kaibab limestone native to the area. It was completed January 1, 1905 a few days before El Tovar hotel opened., and is a National Historic Landmark. |
